Back to School September 2025!

Aug 20, 2025

Welcome Back!

Dear AHE Families,

With just two weeks to go until the school year begins, here is a mini-newsletter to hopefully answer any questions you might have about school start up. Our first day (September 2) will start at 9:30 am and end at 12:00 noon. Busses will run according to this short day. Wednesday, September 3rd will be regular school hours, 8:30 – 2:30. Kindergarten students should follow the graduated entry schedule as outline in their summer letter.

Enjoy the last days of your holidays!

Pam Mair, Principal

Class lists

It’s an exciting time! Class lists will be posted on Friday, August 29th at 3:00 p.m on the windows next to the outside entry doors. Lists will be displayed with first names only.

New Staff Members

While we have many returning staff members, you will also see a few new faces this year! We would like to extend a warm welcome to Leah Poirier (grade 3) and Taylor Larter (grade 6 with Mr. Gardiner) as they join the team at AHE!

New to A.H.E.?

We are excited to meet all of our new students. If you are new to AHE and have not yet had a chance to tour the school, please contact us to arrange a visit. Renovations are still ongoing as contractors work to get our building ready, but staff will be in the building the week of August 25-29th. Please reach out at 250-827-6360 to set up a tour!

First Day of School

Tuesday, September 2nd.

9:30 – 10:00 –  Mug and Muffin at the front of the school. What a great way to reconnect with our school community. Bring your own mug!

10:00 – Students will line up with teachers at outside doors and head to class.

10:00-11:15 – In-class instructional time. Snack in class.

11:15-11:45 – Whole School Assembly and Welcome

12:00 – Dismissal – this first day is a partial day, be please have a plan for your child to walk/ride home or be picked up .

Class Configuration

We are planning for 10 divisions, and approximately 213 students. Over the summer, if we have many families who have moved to our area, or many who have moved away, our class configurations may change. The partial day on September 2nd allows us to count “whites of eyes” to know exactly who will be attending in the year ahead. If your child will not be in attendance on September 2nd, but will be attending AHE this year, please ensure that you call the office to include them in our student numbers.

Classroom placement for the upcoming year is a thoughtful and collaborative process that our staff undertakes starting in May. While we honoured requests in May and June, requests to change classes at this time are rare and are only considered after all options to make the placement work have been tried. Teachers have their class lists and are busily planning with those students in mind. In our configuration, multi-aged or combined classes will exist. This practice is well supported by research, and it also accommodates the number of children in each grade.

School Supplies

This year, we will once again be doing a bulk school supply purchase for students. The cost will be $37 for supplies plus $8 for planners (note: Kindergarten students do not use planners). This amount will be payable to AHE during the first week at school, and we’re pleased to share that online banking will be available for your convenience at that time. More information to follow!
